MODALITIES

Swedish Massage:

Genrerally the most well-known form of massage: includes kneading, long gliding strokes, and percussion.  The depth of the work can vary, but it's generally used for relaxation and stress relief.

Deep Tissue:

Pretty much what it sounds like, this form of massage is used to relieve long-term tension and stubborn knots in the muscles.  It's quite a bit more intense than swedish, and can be uncomfortable in spots, so communication with your practitioner is essential.  A good massage therapist should be able to adjust the pressure to your comfort level without reducing the effectiveness of the massage.

Myofascial Release:

This form of massage is used to release contracted (chronically shortened) muscles and fascia (connective tissue).  It is also utilized to soften and stretch scar tissue.  It is slow and very gentle.  I have used it in place of deep tissue with clients who are pressure sensitive, and have found it to be at least as effective.

Chakra Balancing:

Chakra Balancing is a form of hands-on healing that uses a gentle, non-invasive touch to balance the subtle energy field.  It can often be utilized when massage is contraindicated.

Seated Massage:

Done on site, at your workplace.  Performed while you are sitting comfortably in a portable, padded chair that is specifically designed for that purpose, and can be adjusted to fit your particular body type.  Oil is not used, and the massage is done while you are fully clothed, on the back, neck, shoulders, arms and hands.  I do not massage the scalp unless specifically requested, as it tends to do interesting things to your hairstyle.

My Massage Style:

I use a combination of swedish, deep tissue, myofascial release, and energy work to personalize each massage according to what each client needs.  Remember, this is your massage, so questions and suggestions are always welcome!
